Timeline

1898 - Built by the Benromach Distillery Co., partners Duncan McCallum, previously of Glen Nevis Distillery, Campbeltown, and F.W. Brickman, a spirit dealer from Leith.

1900 - Opened but closed at once.

1907-1910 - Operated as Forres Distillery, proprietor Duncan McCallum.

1911 - Acquired by Harvey McNair & Co.

1914 - Distillery closed.

c.1918 - Revived after World War I by Benromach Distillery Ltd.

1925-38 - Distillery closed.

1938 - Purchased by Associated Scottish Distilleries Ltd. (ASD), a subsidiary of Train & McIntyre Ltd., itself owned by National Distillers of America.

1938 - Direct oil firing of the stills introduced.

1953 - Train & McIntyre Ltd. purchased by the Distillers Company Ltd. (DCL) and Benromach transferred to Scottish Malt Distillers Ltd. (SMD).

1966 - Re-built

1974 - Re-built. Two stills. Licensed to J. & W. Hardie Ltd., South Queensferry, West Lothian.

1983 - Distillery closed while owned by United Distillers (UD).

1992 or 1993 - Acquired by Gordon & MacPhail.

1997 - work begins to re-open the distillery.

October 1998 - Reopened by HRH Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales.

1999 - Malt Whisky Centre (formerly the Drier House) opened.

2024 - The Distillery continues to produce whisky.
